Coaches Meeting

Date and time TBD

League Game Rules

Please review the following NHBL league rules carefully:

GRADE 3-4 RULES

GRADE 5-6 RULES

GRADE 7-8 RULES

There are several key differences between grade divisions so please review these rules in detail. For example, Grades 5-6 and 7-8 - full court press is only allowed when there are 2 minutes or less left on the clock in the 2nd and 4th Quarters.

Player Evaluations

If your grade division has enough players to form two or more teams, player evaluations must be performed so that the multiple teams are evenly matched/rostered. This can be done on a scheduled evaluation day where all players in that division will practice together. Evaluations should be organized by stations. For example: shooting, ball handling, speed and agility. Criteria for player evaluations is pending.

Background Checks

All coaches must pass a background check. DTAA provides online automated background checks from TeamSnap. If you are due for a background check, you will receive an email to complete one.

Certifications

All coaches are required to obtain a certification from the National Alliance for Youth Sports (NAYS). The cost for the certification will be covered by DTAA. After completing the certification for the sport you are coaching, send in a reimbursement request to DTAA when completed.

Curriculum

In an effort to have consistency across all age groups and to improve new coach onboarding as existing coaches retire, we will base our training and drills on the Jr. NBA Basketball Curriculum.

Equipment

All coaches will receive an equipment sack, which includes practice and game basketballs, first aid kit, clipboard, markers, and a whistle. Additional equipment is available under the gym stage including cones, pads, and pinnies.
